Error Code 0x810000E4 while trying to back up

Had to reinstall everything after a crash.  Lost everything.  Decided to get a external drive (1T) to save and back up so that won't happen again....after numerous attempts, and lots, and LOTS of time waiting, it fails.  I get an error code 0x810000E4.  I have searched and so far can't get it going.   When setting up the back up, I even left the Microsoft auto select (recommended) on what I back up....not working...I decided to choose myself, still takes awhile and fails...I'm stumped....any help or advise would be appreciated.  Running windows 7.

    Here is another idea...

You have two variables in your failure equation.

The first is Windows backup itself and the second is your new 1TB external drive.

You can eliminate the first variable by making a simple backup of something small (just one folder) and backing it up to your local HDD that you know works fine.

If that works, you can be reasonably confident that the problem is not with Windows itself.  You also might see if you can restore that simple backup to be sure the entire process works from end to end.

If that same backup fails when you attempt to put the backup on your external drive you will have narrowed down where to start looking for the problem.

What is your system make and model?

What is your Windows version and Service Pack?

    Describe your antivirus/antimalware environment.

What is the make and model of this 1TB external drive and how is it formatted (FAT32, NTFS, etc.)?

Unless you have a good reason not to, you should it as NTFS since other formats have many restrictions.

Other than this problem does the 1TB external drive seem to be functioning normally?

You might reduce the number of message cycles if you include a screen shot of your disk management layout.

Read this wiki article to see how:

How to include a screen shot in your topic

When you get done your screen shot will be similar to this:

This error code is not listed there.  I would prefer a fix for this specific error code.  I can't believe this is the first time anyone has ever experienced this nor Microsoft has a fix?
