Well this error showed up every time I started up my pc since 2 days ago:

Windows Script Host

Script:

C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\hl.vbs

Line:1

Char:1

Error:Expected statement

Code:800A0400

Source:Microsoft VBScript compilation error

I've had no apparent issue with the OS (windows 7 Ultimate) since the error showed up.No glitches,no blue screens, absolutely nothing.I've tried to look up for the error in reliability History yet it didn't show up.

And the date stamp is 15/9/2016.

Well I didn't edit it,I didn't even know this file exists. The only thing I remember doing is updating Malwarebytes in order to scan my pc,but I really doubt that caused it.

You can safely delete this file. It is not a .vbs file and it does not do anything useful. Maybe Malwarebytes got off the rails and placed it there.

Use Windows Explorer to navigate to the folder

    C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

    • What is the date stamp of hl.vbs?
    • Right-click hl.vbs, then left-click Edit. Now mark the text, copy it then paste it into your reply.

i got the same issue, just wondering how can i fix this. It keeps showing after i restart my laptop. is there a repair tool program or something?

Since this is harmless residue of some infection that your virus scanner took care of, you would not want to repair it . . .

To get rid of the pop-up message, right-click the file to edit it then make the very first line like so:

    wscript.quit

    <HTML><HEAD><TITLE>404 Not Found</TITLE></HEAD>

    <BODY BGCOLOR="#cc9999"><H4>404 Not Found</H4>

    File not found.

    </BODY></HTML>

The weird thing is that,I couldn't find it with explorer, when I double-clicked "microsoft" the folder "start menu" simply didn't exist,I had to use search in order to find it.

Now,I don't know what this file is useful for,but this error first occurred 3 days ago,and I 've never had this issue before. So I really doubt that this issue came with my OS,something must have happened that caused this.
