Hi ElderN,
Problem solved. All that was required was to add, believe it or not, Microsoft.com to IE Compatibility List.

Unbelievable!
Thanks for all your efforts to help me. I appreciate it.

This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
I have lost the ability to get Microsoft Updates for Microsoft Office 2010 in my Windows Update Settings.
The option "Give me updates for Miscrosoft products and check for new optional Miscrosoft software when I update Windows." has disappeared from Windows Update settings.
When I click on "Get updates for other Miscrosoft products. Find out more." I am taken right back to Windows Update and I am not given any options to get updates for Miscrosoft Office 2010 programmes.
When I try to check for updates for my Office programmes manually in one of my Office products, e.g. Word, I am taken back again to the Windows Update site.
This has happened after I had to reset the Software Distribution folder because I kept failing to update the latest Windows updates and it must have been corrupted.
I was able to resolve the problem and received all the latest Windows Updates, but now I cannot update my Office 2010 programmes.
I have tried Repairing Office 2010 in Programmes and Features, but that did not resolve the issue.
How can I get Microsoft Updates back so I can update my Office 2010 programmes?
Is there a Miscrosoft FixIt for this issue?
Many thanks

If you mean you are missing these check boxes in Windows Update:
I think once you uncheck those boxes on purpose or accidentally it is a trick to get them back.
Here is one suggestion that is the easiest that works for some folks...
In Internet Explorer click Tools, Compatibility View settings:
Choose to add microsoft.com to the list:
Then click the Close button to save the settings:
Restart your system then go back into Internet Explorer, Compatibility View settings to be sure the changes "stick" and then check your Check Windows Update now and see how things look.
If that doesn't work here is another way that should work:
I'm running Office 2007 but these instructions should be about the same for your version.
First make a manual System Restore point because you need to make a registry adjustment.
If adjusting the registry makes you nervous I'll post up a registry import that will do the work for you (a bit later).
Then close all Office applications - Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. Close them all.
Click the Start button/orb to open the Registry editor like this:
With the registry editor open navigate to this location:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Common\General
Double click to open the ShowOptIn value and change it from a 1 to a zero, click OK to save the changes and close the registry editor. That adjustment will fool Windows Update into thinking Office has just been installed for the first time.
That means that the next time you open an Office application (like Word) you will be asked if you want to get Office Updates through Windows Update.
When I open Word I now see a screen like this and I'm going to click the Next button:
On the next screen I will choose to download updates from Microsoft Update and click Finish.
Now check your Windows Update Settings.

Hi ElderN,
Thanks for your suggestion. It looks like in might be the right track. I am comfortable with editing the Registry. However, I am running Office 2010 Home and Student Edition and my Registry settings are not the same as yours.
I searched for ShownOptin in my Registry and it didn't show up.
Then I went into the Key and found these two possibilities in Office 14. and 15. which seem to be similar to what you are suggesting for Office 2007. However the name is ShownFirstRunOptin.
I am pasting the two scenarios for you to look at. When I did a search on the internet, it appears that this key has to do with the Welcome to Office screen being shown.
I'm not sure this would be the right setting to modify. I looked at the Trust Centre Settings and I don't have the same Privacy Settings Box you show. What do you think? Is there another Registry key setting in Office 2010 for this issue?
Many thanks for your help.
