Prior to a system recovery - I created 8 x discs with my data

Now the laptop has been loaded with Windows 8.1 and most apps now avail - can anyone tell me how to access my files on the discs so that the important files can be reloaded onto my laptop.

Viewing the disc content  within Windows Explorers reveals nothing other than a file name

winUCRD.wim  which contains many thousands of data

    Yes - HP

There is a lot of data because I had just deleted several large pictures and videos which were in the REcycle bin and unfortunately I could not chose not to include the Recycle Bin in the backup.

You never just saved your Data, you saved  more than your Data if you included your Recycle Bin.

Which goes back to my original question of exactly how did you do the backup; burning DVDs is not the answer to that.

I want to know what process you used; whether it was Microsoft's, etc.

8 DVDs is a lot of data.

winUCRD.wim is to do with an image/recovery file.

    Do you have a HP?

You don't say how you created the 8 disks with your Data.
