Notepad issue

Hi Team,

If you open the a notepad(.txt file) which is already open in my system it just opens it twice rather than bringing up the previously opened one.I ended up getting confused making diffreent changes to both of them and then when we save it ,we are not sure which one to save.

Ideally it would be best if I open an already opened .txt file ,it just brings that one rather than opening the another instance of the same .txt file.

Hope that makes sense.

Thank You.

    Dear Aileen,

    Thank You for the reply.

It happens when I open notepad in my desktop.

If I open lots of notepads at a time ,I might forget which ones I had opened previously.

The problem is I will hibernate the system and when I come back the next day, I might open the same note pad again from the desktop.

So now we have two instances of the same notepad.

Then I might accidentally make changes in both of them and won't know which one to save.

I would be really grateful, if you could solve this issue.

    Hope that is clear.

    Hi Aileen,

    Thank You for the reply.

I know that if I select from taskbar it won't open it multiple times. But if I have so many notepads open, I wont bother checking which ones I have opened.

It would be better if Windows remembered the notepads that I have opened just like the case of Folders or Files in the system.

I think this is something you can rectify in your next Update.

    Kind Regards,

    Linta

That is exactly what I'm asking. Why is windows opening a second instance when already one is open?

I'm a user and might forget that I have already opened one. This is something they should handle right?

Why would you open a file when the file is already open?

    Hi Linta,

Glad to help you with your concern. Does it happen when you click on the Notepad icon located at the task bar or when you select Notepad from the Start menu?

If your answer is when you select Notepad from the Start menu, the system will pull up a new Notepad; however, if you click on the Notepad icon located at the task bar, the system will pull up the current Notepad you're working on.

If you need further assistance, keep us posted.

    Thanks,

    Aileen Alf
