partmgr.sys error appears when installing windows XP sp2

When i am trying to install windows xp sp2; a blue screen appears showing the following error:                                                          a problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent your computer.

The problem seems to be caused by following file: partmgr.sys

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

Technical info:

STOP:0×00000050(0×F77114AB,0×00000000,0×F77114AB,0×00000000)

Partmgr.sys- Address F77114AB base at F770F000, Datestamp 00000000.

    Have you check your RAM with MemTest86? Have you scanned you hard drive with chkdsk?
