I go to update Windows Defender because it says that I am potentially unprotected, so I click Update and it begins to update. I speeds through about a quarter of bar and then it slows down majorly and then stops, but it still looks like it's updating but it doesn't move. After waiting about 30 minutes to an hour of it not loading anymore, a window pops up saying "Virus and spyware definitions couldn't be updated." then states "This application couldn't check for virus and spyware definition updates. Check you Internet or network connection and try again." but nothing is wrong with my internet connection because I am using the internet right now.
If anyone knows how to help, I would be very grateful.

Yes, not the first time it's happened here; this time at the same time on 4 Win10s. I guessed there was a pb somewhere 'out there'. It has sorted itself out, again, but I don't how that happens.
BTW, I keep getting the same with MS Essentials on a Win7 Ult box, but this one is solid - never fixes itself. In fact, I've given up with it and don't access the Web via that box any more, just using it as archive.

I spent time on this. The last time it happened, I just waited for Microsoft to fix their problem. Don't spend time on this. Microsoft screwed up. Give them time to fix it.

Error continues. Also other problems with Windows 10 networking that my ISP has referred back to Microsoft and potential driver issues for network card....What is the big picture regarding the state of Windows 10 today December 12, 2016?
