I just received my laptop back from an ex step mom. And when I turned it on the only thing that is on the screen is:

Reboot and select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in elected Boot device and press a key.

This is is the only thing shows up on my screen. Every key I press it repeats the message. I tried CNTRL ALT DEL and it just restarted the laptop and showed the same screen.

My my laptop is a Windows 8 Toshibia Satelite.

    Hi,

This issue may occur when your hard disk drive has failed, or the boot partition of your hard drive has been wiped out or got corrupted.

Power up your PC, as soon as you see the Toshiba splash screen, press the 'F2' key at the top of the keyboard to enter the BIOS CMOS Setup. If your BIOS is showing that the HDD/SDD is not present, then your hard disk drive has likely completely failed.

Try these steps and should you need further assistance please contact Toshiba Support.

    Regards.
