Error code 1061

I recently purchased a Epson scanner for my computer running Windows 8.1 .    I installed the software which came with the scanner and it worked fine.  4 days later I went to use it and I get an error message saying that it can't communicate with the scanner.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the software only to get the same results.   Digging into the problem I saw an error message saying that the WIA driver can't be found and reinstall it from the cd or Epson website.  No luck there, so I called Epson help desk.  After trying many things with them, I ended up on the Services (local) screen through the control panel.  The WIA is listed, but when I click it to stop it I get the Error 1061 message.  Epson help desk had me try scanning from my printer through the Paint program and it worked fine.  I have another laptop with Windows 10 on it and the Epson scanner works fine on that one.  I would really like to get it working on Windows 8.1.  Any suggestions?

I tried these steps, but it did not resolve the issue.  Upon further digging around, I found System Restore.  I ran that to a restore point created when I first installed my scanner, and that reset everything to the way it was.

    Hi,

Below are the steps to follow in disabling Windows Image Acquisition (WIA). (These are Windows 10 instructions, and will work also with Windows 8.1).

    1. Run "services.msc".

    1. Find "Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)" and right-click on it.

    1. Select "Properties".
    2. Change the "Startup Type:" to "Disabled".
    3. Reboot computer.

See Windows Image Acquisition Drivers for more information.

Let us know how that turned out.
