CBS Persist

Windows 7 CBS Persist files are taking down computer.  These files currently use 150 GB.  Is there a fix I can run for this issue?

I moved all files I could off of the machine, so I could continue work temporarily, each day more is added to the CBS persist file area making the 150 GB files even bigger. CBSpersist files affect performance when they are so large in taking up space the PC doesn't have enough memory to run, I am hitting that point.  I do not have a virus.  I have all updates.  Thanks, I appreciate your support.

Hi,

The SFC.exe program record the information of each repair operation to the CBS.log file. The CBS.persist.log is a file generated when the CBS gets to be around 50 meg in size. CBS.log is copied to cbs.persist.log and a new cbs.log file is started.

This file is useful to troubleshoot some issues. If you're not experiencing issues with the performance of your device, you may delete this file. SFC.exe will create a new one, next time it is run. Here's how:

  1. Disable the trusted installer service (Windows Modules Installer).
  2. Delete/move all of the current CBS log files from the \Windows\CBS\Logs directory.
  3. Restart the Windows Modules Installer service.

i am also getting a white screen for turn windows feature on or off - is this problem related to that?  Why would i have a white screen for turning windows features on or off?

i do not want to do anything that is not considered to be best practice, computer working fine except for the CBS persist memory issue.  i am in the middle of delivering a volunteer project -  could sure use help solving this problem.
