I have an HP ENVY with Windows 8.1, I'm currently trying to play a video game, however, the first error message I get is I am missing api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll. After which, I uninstalled every version of Microsoft Visual C++ (Several versions from 2008-2015)
and attempted to reinstall C++ 2015, but I get error code 0x80240017, unspecified error. However, I can install C++ 2013, but that says I am missing MSCVP140.dll or api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll.
I check for updates for Windows several times, and it always gives me the exact same two updates. I believe the problems with Visual C++ 2015 is connected with my Windows Modules Installer missing, and when I look for it in services.msc, it's not there. Upon using the command prompt to scan for corrupted system files (via sfc /scannow) I get an error stating that the Windows Resource Protection cannot perform the action. I cannot install the Windows Installer Redistributable either, because of an error with the Windows Modules Installer.
Unfortunately all my system restore points were made after this issue came up, and I'm currently trying to find the easiest method to fix this, with a full system restore and/or getting a windows upgrade disc (if possible) being a last resort. I feel as though getting Windows Modules Installer back would start to fix everything else down the line, but I can't find any reliable source in which to download and install it.
