error code 0xc00d36e5 - missing codec?

I have shot a short trial video on my iPhone, saved it on an external drive (WD My Passport Wireless Pro) and then tried to view it by connecting the external drive via USB cable. I can retrieve the file .MOV but cannot view it (error message 0xc00d36e5) . Is there a codec I need to download?

    Hi,

It seems that you are also having issues with playing .mov files. To make sure we're giving you the correct information, we'd like to clarify a few things:

    • Are you getting the same error messages (0xc00d36e5) as what the original poster is receiving?
    • Are you also using Windows Media Player 12?
    • Have you performed the steps we've provided on this very thread? If so, what was the outcome?

We'll wait for your response and assist you accordingly.

If you are unable to see the About Windows Media Player option in the Help menu, you can determine your version by going to the Windows Media Player folder located in Program Fil es. Here are the steps:

    1. Click This PC > Local Disk.
    2. Click Program Files > Windows Media Player.
    3. Right-click on the wmplayer.exe, then choose Properties.
    4. Go to Details tab, and check the Product version.

Let us know so we can further help.

    Regards.

    Hi Angela

    Thanks for your reply.

My version does not display the option "About Microsoft Media Player" in

    the Help menu.

From the Control Panel / Programmes & Features I see in "Properties" that

there are no previous versions and last date modified is March 2015. No

    info re version there either.

    Kind regards

    Peter

    Hi Peter,

You may receive the error 0xc00d36e5 if the video is corrupted, or its file type is not supported by the media player that you're using. To properly address your concern, we'd like to ask a few questions:

    • What media application are you using to watch the video?
    • Is the issue happening on a specific video or on all videos you're playing?

We look forward to your response.

    Thank you.

    Hi Angela

Thanks for getting back to me.

Let me give you the background: I shot a short clip using my iPhone6, stored it on an external drive an tried to view it in the Windows Media player. That's where the error message appeared.
