Hello everyone,

I hope someone can help me with my dilemma.

Migrating from Windows 7 to Windows 10 - I run USMT to back up my user data and obtain a .mig file.

Wanting to verify the data is there to be restored before installing the new OS, I am trying to use the USMTUtils tool to extract the .mig file.  If I put the DestinationPath on a mapped drive it works great.  However if I try to use a UNC path \servername\share$\migstore\user\contents it creates the contents folder but does not extract any data and put in the contents folder.  I know it is not a rights issue because if I map a drive to \server\share$ then use that drive letter\contents it works great.

The log file contains:

a whole bunch more of the above lines then

2017-08-23 10:42:42, Info                  [0x000000] UsmtUtils return code: 0

The contents folder contains 3 files:

cache.img

catalog.mig

migstate.dat

but when I use a local drive as the destination path the contents folder contains a folder USMT which contains the above 3 files plus a folder named File which contains the extracted data.

Is there a way to allow a unc path as the Destination Path for the usmtutils.exe program?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

For Windows 10 Pro deployment issues using USMT, you should post this issue on the dedicated Windows 10 IT Pro forums on TechNet:
