I have installed a different android App, Parallels Client, which allows configuration of the connection preferences. It relies on the RDP protocol and did not require any software install on the windows PC host end. It does allow for configuration of the connection settings (e.g. bit depth, resolution etc). Based on my reading and trial and error it appears that RDP v8.0 and later will default to 32bit color on the host PC and cannot be changed (please correct if this is wrong). The Parallels app did allow me to specify an 8bit color depth but it still connected with 32bit. However I was able to change the screen resolution down to 640x480, which achieved my desired outcome - reduced latency on a video feed.
Remote desktop connection via android
I have recently installed the RD Client app on my phone and have successfully connected to a Windows 7 (Enterprise) PC. The app has very limited settings. Is it possible to define the connection settings at the host end (Note: It is not a server) for color depth, remove wall paper etc.
I have read a lot of posts about modifying the parameters under Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Remote Session Environment but I was unable to get these setting to apply when using RDP from PC to PC (Not sure if they only work on server/Terminal Server).
