It should be possible but needs some work/steps:
- Create a snapshot of the VM's disk(s)
- Shutdown the VM
- Create a new VM based on the snapshot
- Start the clone and sysprep/generalise the cloned machine
- Create a new VM based on the generalised image
- Start the original/first VM
