CD BURNER ERROR MESSAGE - WINDOWS 10

"Windows Media Player cannot burn the files. If the burner is busy, wait for the current task to finish. If necessary, verify that the burner is connected properly and that you have installed the latest device driver".

Hi, hope someone can help regarding the above error message when trying to burn a CD - R with music already on my computer. Haven't had this problem in the past but now have 5 useless CD-R's - not technical by any means so if anyone can offer me a straightforward solution I would be really grateful.

Thanks in anticipation.

Paul.

Uninstall the device driver, reboot.

Go to the Control Panel, Device Manager, look for DVD/CD-ROM Devices, right click uninstall. We are uninstalling the driver not the Media Player software.

Oh OK, it's just that you mentioned "uninstall" and reboot in your original reply, have I misunderstood something?

No, you shouldn't have to re-install media player. Media Player seems to be fine, it is most likely the driver. Looks like its stuck in busy limbo mode. But it is not actually busy. Once you reboot the driver will reinstall on its own.

Hi Tamara, tried the update route but apparently the driver is up to date.

If I uninstall media player and re-boot won't I have to re-install media player after the restart? Sorry if that's a dumb question but as explained not at all technical.

    Thanks for your help.

Re-installing or updating the driver may resolve your problem.

Go to the Control Panel, Device Manager, look for DVD/CD-ROM Devices. Right click on the device name, select update driver. If it does not find a new driver, select uninstall, reboot your computer.
