Wanted to know about the Windows licensing structure for a Hyper-V Cluster Environment. Let said that have two clusters Cluster1 & Cluster2. Cluster 1 & Cluster2 both will have the same physical hardware, meaning it will have nHost (n = amount servers) and
a Storage Area Network (SAN). Each cluster will have the capability of high availability (HA), meaning that if a host server fails the VM will move automatically to the other host server. The cluster will have nVM (n = amount of VMs) in Cluster1, those machines
will be replicated to Cluster2 in case Cluster1 completely fails, machines will need to be restarted manually.
If in Cluster1 I have a VM named Machine1 (Windows Server 2016) and the primary host server for that VM will be Host1; if Host1 fails, the VM will move to Host2 and so on if nHost fails. The same will happen if Cluster1 fails, since the machine is replicated
on Cluster2 the machines could be started manually in the host that the machines seats.
Questions:
* Do I need a Windows license (n-license) for every host were Machine1 (VM) can be moved to? How many? What type of license if Machine1 is Windows Server 2016?
* What about replication, does the VM needs a Windows license for the other cluster?
* Any strategy regarding licensing for Host that could cover any VMs movement between (HA) Host or for replication?
