System thread exception not handled while trying to update to 1709

Hi guys,

I've been trying to install the update for Windows 10 1709 for a week or so now but it is failing during installation with the message "System Thread Exception Not Handled" no driver is mentioned with the message to be able to identify the issue.  How can I fix the issue and successfully install the update?

* I have tried using SFC /SCANNOW and DISM with no success.

* I have tried using the update tool which seemed to go even more badly since the BSOD that occurred in that case was 'scrambled' and completely unreadable.

* I have tried using device manager and clicking 'update driver' on every component on the list, but this seems to have had no effect.

* I have tried to configure a dump to try to capture the data of the issue but the dump fails to create any files

I am entirely stuck and getting quite frustrated when I keep getting 'reminders' to install the update

    Hi Riel,

    Thanks for replying,

It's quite hard to say, the last few attempts has shown the blue screen all scrambled and unreadable.  Based on the point in the process it is reaching being quite consistent though I would say yes.

    Thank you for your reply.

The System Thread Exception Not Handled error usually occurs due to the driver issues. For us to eliminate the software conflicts, we suggest performing a clean boot, then install again the update.

Note: A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs.

Please post back with the result for further assistance.

    Hi Michelle,

    Thank you for the reply.

I always keep my graphics card driver up to date although I did have an update in between the various attempts to get this install working, I am wondering if it was that which caused the BSOD to go from a readable form to the scrambled mess that shows now instead.

I have tried both the Windows Update Troubleshooter and resetting the components.  The troubleshooter apparently ran with no issues that I could see other than during the check for updates it detected the very one that is causing the issue.  Resetting the components didn't seem to have too many issues although there were a number of instances while executing the commands where the system was unable to find the mentioned .dll or qmgr dat file but I am unsure whether this is normal or not.

I have since that point also retried the install and met with the same failure, it always seems to happen at about the 33% - 50% stage of the process.

    Hi,

Just to check, are you still getting the error "System thread exception not handled" while installing Windows 10 1709?

We're looking forward to your reply.

    Hi,

The System Thread Exception Not Handled error in Windows 10 may occur due to a variety of reasons. One of which is due to incompatible or old graphic card drivers.

That being said, can you check on your display adapter manufacturer's website if they have the latest update for your graphic driver? This can assure you that you have the latest update for your display adapter.

Have you tried running the Windows Update Troubleshooter? This can find and repair problems with Windows update.

If the issue persists, you may reset the Windows Update components for a refresh.

We'll be waiting for your response.

    Regards.
