I'm Win 10 with the 1709 update - I just checked my Snipping Tool and it's still set at JPEG file for saving.. it stays there until I select a different type. When I change it to PNG it will stay there until I change it again.
Snipping tool - change default back to save as jpg.
On a new computer with Windows 10, the snipping tool's default is to save as a png file. I save all my snips as jpg files. It is a pain to have to change each one I save. Is there a way to change the default to save as jpg. I have looked to try to change the default settings, but snipping tool is not on that list.

You could change the type to a lossy compression when you save, or paste it into another program and save from that. It could also be a cool thing to put into your built-in "Feedback Hub" app on your computer.

So you'll only ever have to change it once. Very nice! Thanks all.

Even back to Windows 7, which was the first one to ever come with Snipping Tool, saved as a PNG file by default. Although it did have a difference that I noticed -- it started a snip as soon as the program opened, rather than waiting for you to click "New". I miss that.
