My documents folder is only showing 1 file.  Where did they go and how do I get them back?

We are volunteers here willing to help with your issue.

If your Account is an Admin use File Explorer to check all the User - Documents folders. Start Button - type in File Explorer or use the Manila Folder icon on the TaskBar.

OR if needed :

Do you have another Admin Account on the computer? If so use it and then File Explorer to check the Users - Documents folders - can you find them?

If there is not other Admin Account on the computer use the Hidden Admin Account :

Right Click the Start Button - Command Prompt (Admin) or Windows Powershell (Admin) - then Copy and Paste this command in.

Net user administrator /active:yes

Use it to look in File Explorer - Users for your files

After using the Hidden Admin Account it is best to disable it again.

Repeat the above except this time Copy and Paste

Net user administrator /active:no

The above and more with the Hidden Admin Account is covered here :

If you find your files try copying a just few into your new Documents folder then check in that account to see if they appear - this is to check to see if there is corruption or not. If all seems ok copy more in.

Or you could use the Hidden Admin Account to create a whole new account for yourself and copy the files to it.

OR

You can move the setting for your documents folder to the location where they are now (though I would create a whole new account if the location is not under your present account). The problem with doing this is with where the files are now - are they under a corrupted user name account which might have further problems? Or hopefully they are under your user account and the folder name settings just needs to be changed using the methods below.
