"The memory could not be read" Error

Hello,

I have a strange problem on Windows 10 that appeared about a month ago.

It ONLY happens when I am shutting down Windows or when I am restarting Windows.

Please see the error message:

The strange thing is that I get this error with different programs. Sometimes it is with the Razer mouse driver programe, sometimes Skype, sometimes SoundBlaster, sometimes OneDrive.

Anyway, this is driving me nuts.

What I tried to solve the issue:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows\_8-performance/explorerexe-application-error-the-instruction-at/855b963d-9ed9-4510-8764-a3c2757d7c45

I tried ALL the stepsin the above link. Windows detected NO memory issues. EVERYTHING IS FINE according to Windows.

I also tried the SafeBoot options. While in this mode, the error did not seem to happen when I tried restarting my PC.

Finally, ALL my drivers are up to date and Windows is up to date.

Here is my config:

AORUS GIGABYTE GTX 1080 Ti 11G
CPU INTEL Core i7-7700K (4.2GHz, 8M, LGA1151, VGA)
GIGABYTE AORUS Z270X-Gaming 7 (rev 1.0)
NZXT liquid cooler for CPU/GPU, Kraken X52
PSU Corsair RMx Series RM750x 750W, 80 PLUS Gold, Fully modular, 135mm
Black 2TB HDD WD2003FZEX 64 MB SATAIII/600 7200rpm
PC case Corsair Obsidian Series 750D Full Tower ATX Case
Windows Home 10 64-Bit Eng 1pk OEM DVD
Corsair Vengeance Black DDR4, 3200MHz 16GB, Unbuffered,
M.2 SSD 500 GB Samsung 960 EVO

How can I fix this please?

It seems applications still resident in memory are whats causing this.

Could you make sure no programs are running in the background before shutting down?

Also, close out all browser tabs.

    Hi,

Thank you for your quick response!

So I closed all programs before shutting down the PC and I did not have the "memory" problem happen.

That's great but isn't Windows supposed to shutdown those programs on its owns? I am not going to close each and every single program one by one each time I want to restart. I would have to close: OneDrive, Skype, Graphic drivers, Audio software etc...

This issue did not happen before either.

    Thank you

Did you get an answer? I have the same issue, only the Application Error is always for Explorer. Here's the error message - the instruction number and memory number differ from those above.

    Thank you!
