When I use Microsoft solitaire the cpu usage rapidly ramps up to as high as 80% causing the fan to absolutely race.  This is new ion the last few days.  Nothing else seems to cause this.  Any suggestions?

I tried resetting the game app as per your instructions but this unfortunately did not make any difference.  I haven't tried the clean boot yet.

It is surprising how fast it eats up cpu; within 10-15 seconds of starting the game the fan is racing and cpu usage by the game is over 50%, sometimes as high as 90%.

We would like to verify if you are playing Microsoft Solitaire using the App or the web browser. Were you also able to perform a clean boot on your computer?

If you are using the app, we recommend that you reset the game from the Settings menu. This process can help restore corrupted game installation files. Here's how:

    1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard, and then click the Settings icon.
    2. Select System, and then select Apps & features.
    3. Find the game, and then click on Advanced options.
    4. Click Reset.
    5. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Keep us updated with the results and let us know if you have any other questions.

Yes, it did start after an update.  No other changes, and it only occurs (so far) with the one game.  I haven't tried anything much yet, just ran malaware to look for anything that might be causing issues, found nothing.

I haven't updated and graphics card drivers as everything else seems fine.

I see Google Chrome cpu usage also increases with Microsoft Solitaire.

    Hi Dave,

There are various reasons why you are experiencing performance issues with playing Microsoft Solitaire. It can possibly be due to a malware infection or a corrupted Windows Update. To properly isolate your concern, please clarify the following information:

    • Did the issue start after an update?
    • Have you made any changes to your computer prior to the issue?
    • Does the same issue occur when you play other games on your PC?
    • What steps have you tried so far to resolve the issue?
    • Have you tried to update your graphics card drivers?

In the meantime, we recommend that you click on this link for the steps to perform a clean boot. This process will start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows 10.
