James, my understanding is that the AMD is being appended there because they own the patent on 64 bit architecture and are enforcing it. We have a lot of question about why those (like myself) who have Intel components only are getting AMD updates and this is the reason I was given.

What I do with Windows Updates is give them time to sort themselves out unless they cause you problems. If so then I'd run the Windows Update Troubleshooter at Settings>Update & Security>Troubleshoot. If that isn't enough I'd just reinstall Windows Updater with this script: http://www.askvg.com/fix-windows-update-problem...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Greg,  I have had the problem for over a month,  do you know when Windows will have a fix?  Thanks for your suggestions but no thanks to trying any of them.  I'm very disappointed with Windows and their updating.  I think a few other people are not happy as I read on the FSX forums.  James

Thanks Greg,  My update says "Failed to install on ‎11/‎15/‎2017 - 0x80070643".  Update was 2017-11 Cumulative Update for windows 10 Version 1709 for amd64-based Systems (K4048955).  What does the "amd" stand for?

    James

Hi James. I'm Greg, a volunteer installation specialist and 8 year WIndows MVP here to help you.

Is this Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition? If so this is a known issue caused by Fall Creators Version 1709 which Lockheed Martin is working on with a patch expected this month. See https://steamcommunity.com/app/314160/discussio...

If this is Fall Creators Update Version 1709, which you can check at Settings>System>About, you can also roll it back at Settings>Update & Security>Recovery, then hide it using the same tool above until it matures.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
