says to call Microsof at a given number and any attemp to close down will result in loss of passwords and data. It's phony because I restarted and did not lose anything. It keeps showing up every few days. How can I remove it?

These warnings are easy to get away from if you know what your doing. Its important to avoid things that are unreal. They make money by scaring people they are called browser hijackers by some. .Scareware is a form of malicious software that uses social engineering to cause shock, anxiety, or the perception of a threat in order to manipulate users into buying unwanted software. Its like the phone calls that pretend they are Microsoft and warn you of errors therefore  pretend they spot an error. I received one of these today and Norton quickly moved me off the page sometimes Norton does not catch these soon enough sometimes however its doing better therefore saved me time getting away from these distractions.
