Windows 10 1701 update issues

My girlfriends laptop is running an AMD A9 processor and ever since the latest batch of updates nothing works properly. The start menu doesn't always work (we can get round this by restarting explorer.exe), Microsoft Edge no longer works at all, the audio drivers are no longer recognised by the laptop and there is no way to get sound (the control panel sound section wont even open). And a number of other programs either wont run at all, or just crash on launch. I have tried to remove the latest updates, but to no avail as the software wont let me turn of automatic updates, so as soon as i get something working the machine restarts and i am back to square one. As you might imagine i am getting rather frustrated with all the issues caused by this latest stream of updates. Any help and ideas would be very much appreciated.

In this case, we suggest performing a custom install of Windows 10 as your system files and Windows components might be corrupted. This will process will install new system files but you can still keep the files you saved on your hard drive. To do this, simply follow the steps in this article.

    Hi Jefferson

I have tried all of these steps and it makes no difference. All issues that i have previously described still persist.

    Regards

    Hi Joshua,

User profile corruption is one of the possible reasons why you encountered performance issues after installing a few updates in Windows 10. To troubleshoot the issue, we suggest creating a new user account on your computer and see if the same issues will occur while on a different user profile. To do this, simply follow the steps below:

    1. Select the Start button, then select Settings  > Accounts  > Family & other people > Add someone else to this PC.
    2. Type a user name, password, password hint, and then select Next.

You can also try running the System File Checker tool to help you find any missing or corrupted system files. To do this, follow the steps below:

    1. Select Start , and in the search box, enter Command Prompt. Press and hold (or right-click) Command Prompt (Desktop app) from the search results and select Run as administrator.
    2. Enter DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth (note the spaces before each "/").
    3. Enter sfc /scannow (note the space between "sfc" and "/")

Should you have further questions, please let us know.
