Hello. My computer is Crashing with the Blue screen of death. The error is saying Unexpected_kernal_mode_trap. Then saying that the wdf01000.sys is what is causing the crash. I have no clue what I'm doing at this point. I ran the driver verifier had all drivers running except Microsoft drivers. Left my computer on so that it would eventually crash. After it did, I went to check the minidump and there is nothing there. I do not know where to go from here.

No that file doesn't exist either auggy.

Make sure you do not have an application set up to delete dump files such as CCleaner.

But it may that for some reason dump files are not being created.

Can you provide the following information which may help determine any issue(s):

Windows Key + R > type msinfo32 in the "Open" box  > OK > File > Save > then save as an .nfo file

Then make the resulting .nfo file available via a public folder on OneDrive or similar site.

Also, can you do the following:

Windows Key + R > type eventvwr in the "Open" box > OK > expand "Custom Views" and then right-click "Administrative Events" > select "Save all events in Custom View As" and save as an .evtx file

Then make the resulting .evtx file available via a public folder on OneDrive or similar site.

Here's a link on using OneDrive:

    The computer is custom built.

The only hardware changes I have made were about a year ago I added an SSD and more RAM.

This issue has been going on for longer than a month now. But it only happened every once in awhile now it happens very frequent.

The blue screen will happen when I am playing games on the PC. I don't believe that it has crashed not in a game. (not a specific game)

    OS Build info- 16299.248

And also the system file check came back with no violations.

    Hello,

There are several factors to consider should you encounter this type of blue screen error on Windows 10. UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP can be caused by a faulty hardware component, corrupted Windows system file, malware or virus, or device driver issue. It would be great if you can tell us more about your concern. Please answer the following questions:

    • What is the make and model of your computer? Kindly tell us if it's a pre-built or a custom-built system.
    • Did you recently make any hardware changes to your system?
    • When did the issue start?
    • Were you running a specific program when the blue screen error occurred?
    • What is the current OS Build of your Windows 10 system? Click the Start button, type About your PC, press Enter, and then scroll down to Windows specifications to find this information.

For now, we advise performing the following troubleshooting steps:

Run the DISM command-line tool and the SFC tool

These tools are designed to scan for corrupted in Windows system files and restore corrupted files. You can find the steps on how to run these tools from this page.

    Update your device drivers

Generic device drivers can easily be updated in Device Manager. Kindly refer to this article for the steps on how to manually update drivers in Windows 10. If you have a branded hardware component, it would be best to go to the device manufacturer's support page to download the latest driver that is compatible with Windows 10.

We'll be waiting for the results.
