I have spent days and hours trying to fix updating failures. I simply want to live without these updates. Every time I switch my computer on it downloads this update automatically and then if I don't cancel it goes into the update, fails, uninstalls, and then waits for the next opportunity. I am sick of this intrusion and failure. I have tried several esoteric solutions of which none work. I simply want to live without it. If anyone can tell me how to switch it off. Windows 10.
Thanks
Pierce

Controlling Windows updates in 10 is somewhat difficult but you can see the options here:
Hi Pierce, complete the three steps below to turn off Automatic Updates in Windows 10
1.
Open the Settings App
Go to Accounts - Sign-in Options
Choose to sign in with a Local Account rather than a Microsoft Account.
2.
In the Settings App
Go to Network and Internet
Set your WiFi connection as Metered
3.
Click your Start Button, type services and hit ENTER
Scroll down the list of services to find Windows Update
Double click the service
If it has started, click 'Stop'
Then you must set its startup type to 'Disabled' - 'Manual' will not do!
Restart your PC
That's It!
