Normally when I get a windows 10 update, I have to go to view and recheck view hidden files selection.  This time, I cannot get windows 10 to recognize the check mark.

I also looked in the control panel.  Under Hidden Files and Folders, show hidden files and folders button will not retain the selection after you press apply and okay.  Why does this happen after every update?  Have I missed something in my settings to correct or stop this?

What fixed my problem was deleting Bitdefender Antivirus.  I installed a single user Norton Antivirus and immediately after rebooting my computer, I was able to view hidden folders.  Bitdefender also kept me from doing weekly cloud backup's.  Plus smaller items.  Caution - Stay away from Bitdefender.

We appreciate your response. May we know if you already done the DISM tool on your computer? If yes, and the issue still persists, what you can do is to perform a repair upgrade using the latest Windows 10 ISO file. Performing a repair upgrade can resolve broken operating system files while preserving your personal files, settings and installed applications. To perform a repair upgrade, you can follow the steps in this Forum Article that was provided by Andre Da Costa.

Should you have further queries, feel free to post it.

Small item:  Stated Go to start>type cmd and choose run as administrator.

Finally got there after going to Start > Search> Type CDM.  Then Command Prompt Came Up highlighted in a pink color.  There I right clicked and Run As Administrator came up.

    No problems were found.

So what is next?   Thank you.

    Hi Jon,

Corrupted system files after an update is one of the possible reasons why the Files and Folders settings is not retained. We suggest that you run the System File Checker tool and the Deployment Image Servicing and Managementtool to scan and correct any issues. System File Checker (SFC) is a built-in tool in the operating system. SFC checks for system file corruption. Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) is a command-line tool that can be used to service a Windows image or to prepare a Windows Preinstallation Environment image.

Kindly follow the steps in this article posted by ZigZag3143 (MS-MVP) to perform SFC and DISM: System file check (SFC) Scan and Repair System Files & DISM to fix things SFC cannot.

Should you need further assistance, don't hesitate to get back to us.
