KB4048955 - Installation aborted

Anonymous
2017-11-20T23:45:03+00:00

I have a Dell laptop with Windows 10 version 1709  build 16299.19 with an Intel I7-7700HQ.

Windows Update proposes KB4048955 but upon reboot the installation is aborted (twice) and eventually upon login WU proposes the update again, in an infinite loop.

Thanks

Well it seems I managed to solve the problem by following these steps:

    1. From cmd as admin run

    "sfc /scannow"

    1. Reboot
    2. From cmd as admin run  "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:\RepairSource\Windows /LimitAccess"
    3. Reboot and then let WU install updated, reboot etc.
    4. Eventually update installed correctly

    Now I am on 16299.64

Giovanni, did you try installing it manually from the Windows Update catalog yet? http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search....

I'm advising to roll back Version 1709 because of catastrophic problems reported by the minute here. That's why I asked how it's working for you. If not then I would roll it back as I did after cascading failures on my pristine Clean Install.

Could you try installing the latest Cumulative Update KB4048955 (OS Build 16299.64), which is known to fix many of these problems?

You can manually download it at:

    http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Sea...

You can then follow the instructions in the following article install it:

    https://www.groovypost.com/howto/manually-insta...

If that does not work, I recommend rolling back.

There seems to be some early adopter issues at this time with Windows 10 1709, if you can, I recommend you downgrade to your previous version until the Fall Creators Update matures with future cumulative updates.

Open Start > Settings > Update & security > Recovery > under Go back to my previous version of Windows 10, click Get started.

    Hi Greg,

it's been 5 days so far and problem persists.

The forums are plenty of users with the same problem: been searching for a solution to no avail.

I'm a 44 year old computer science engineer with 25 years of experience, yet I don't see the light with this problem: could you serach any internal knowledge base to help me out?

    Thanks

Hi Giovanni. I'm Greg, a volunteer installation specialist and 8 year WIndows MVP here to help you.

You can wait a few days during which WIndows Update often will sort out the Updates by reshuffling their order or realizing one is not needed or in proper order.

If you get tired of waiting for it to sort itself out you can manually install an Update from the catalog here: http://test.catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/sit...

May I ask how you are doing with Version 1709? Was the new version delivered by Windows Update or manually installed from media or Media Creation Tool? Are you having any problems from it as we are seeing heavily in Forums now? Thanks for sharing.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
