I doubt the printer is reading anything.

What is the complete text of the error message, including any status code?

Is the error message on the computer or on the printer?

What edition of Windows do you have and is it 32-bit or 64-bit?  If you don't know, press the Windows Logo key and the "Pause/Break" key simultaneously.

How is the printer connected to the computer (wi-fi, USB, Ethernet, other -- explain)?

Is the printer connected to a company network or installed in an company environment?  If yes, what does your company network administrator or support person have to say about your problem?

What happened to your system (computer and/or printer) shortly before the problem started?
