DATA ERROR: CRC

Hi! ahmm, I'm having a problem with Toshiba laptop. I'm trying to create a new partition while reinstalling windows 10 so I delete the old partition but when I try to crete one it says that "we couldn't create a new partition or locate one..."

I tried so many instructions I found in forums, youtubes etc. but none of those worked. I tried creating thru DISKPART. but an error is returning saying DATA ERROR: (CRC) so I cannot continue.

I also tried CHKDSK... but it says that the drive is write protected

I've also tried ATTRIBUTES DISK CLEAR READONLY but always unsuccessful

when I check attributes its all in NO state so I guess it is not write protected.

PS.  I'm dealing with this problem for 3 days now. 😞

Hi! I've done everything above. I deleted partition, it's the only drive and only one partition when I bought it then I decided to create a D partition and clean install windows. but after I deleted the partition it say that windows cannot create partition. even on DISKPART, CRC error returns whenever I do the Disk Cleaning was successful but creating a partition returns the crc error. 😞

also. the windows installation only initiates when in CSM BOOT, the media (adata 16gb 2.0) was not detected if I set it to UEFI.

UPDATE:

hello thank for your time and help guys! I successfully installed windows! :)

Instead of just typing "CLEAN" in diskpart, I typed "CLEAN ALL" it's a very long process but it enables me to create a partition thus, continuing to install window! yay! hooray thank you again for baring time with me! God Bless!

A CRC error is very indicative of a hardware problem on the drive.

I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 8 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

The correct way to do this is to delete all partitions down to Unallocated Space during the booted install. Then Windows has no say and cannot resist because it is not running.

Follow the illustrated Clean Install steps in this tutorial which compiles the best possible install that will stay that way as long as you stick with the tools and methods given: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

To create Windows 10 Installation Media on another PC install Media Creation Tool and follow the directions here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m...

Insert media, boot it by powering up PC while pressing the BIOS Boot Menu Key: https://www.sysnative.com/forums/hardware-tutor...

If the media won't boot you may need to enter BIOS/UEFI Setup (pressing key given in chart in link above) to turn off Fast Boot or Fast Startup first.

Choose the boot device as a UEFI device if offered, on second screen choose Install Now, then Custom Install, then at the drive selection screen delete all partitions down to Unallocated Space to get it cleanest, click Next to let it create needed partitions and start install - this makes it foolproof.

Anything less is not a Clean Install and will lead to building up a disk junkyard of old unneeded recovery partitions and wasted space.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
