Keyboard Not Found! Cannot Access Computer

I've read a number of posts about keyboards not working with Windows 10 and I have a similar problem.

We lost power and our desktop PC (Dell Inspiron) Bios version 1.2.1, running Windows 10 does not recognize any keyboards when it boots. We use a Logitech keyboard and mouse, both of which work right up until Windows itself runs. I have a beautiful picture of a placid mountain lake with the date and time displayed, but I can't move past that screen to actually use the machine because no keyboards are found.

I brought a wired keyboard home from work and plugged that in: same result. The LED number lock light is on during the initial power up, and I can use F2 to access BIOS. In BIOS, both the keyboard and mouse work. Exit BIOS, the number lock light goes out, no keyboard function is recognized by the machine.

I have the MediaCreationTool.exe on a USB drive plugged into one of the ports. The light on the USB drive is on during the initial power up but then goes off when the beautiful Windows lake picture with the date and time shows up.

I am very frustrated. How do I get access to my computer again? Please help.

    Hi Doug,

Based on the information you've provided, looks like the power supply on your PC has been affected by the power surged that you've recently experienced. The power that your PC supplies to the USB ports are not enough to sustain it.

By the way, have you tried connecting your keyboard to a different USB port on your PC? Did you experience the same issue? If you have, then I suggest that you get in touch with your computer manufacturer so they can look into your PC's power supply. Please have the BIOS check as well and make sure the settings are back to default and that the USB ports are activated.

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Regards.
