Setting default apps by file type

I need to change the default app used to open .qfx and .qif files. When I try to do that, I get the choice of Moneydance (which is the default now) or picking something from the app store. I want to choose Quicken, which is already installed on my computer. How do I do that, when it does not let me browse for an app on my own computer?

It is very annoying to have the screen pop up every time I open Quicken that tells me it is not the default program.

Right click the .qfx and .qif file

    Click Properties

    Click General tab

    Click Change

If you don't see Quicken, click More apps

    Select Quicken if its listed

If its not listed, click 'Look for another app on this PC'

Open Quicken folder then select the Quicken app

    Click Open

    Click OK

    Hi Marsha,

    Open the Settings App

Go to Apps - Default Apps

Scroll to the bottom and choose 'Set Defaults by App'

    On the left find Quicken

On the right, click, set this app as default'

The text above the button will change to 'This App has all its defaults'

    That should do it . . .

OK, I did some reading and all Quicken users are reporting this bug - Quicken does not appear in the Settings App - but according to that forum this can be done from Control Panel - I do wish Microsoft would get some consistency going . . .

Open Control Panel - All Control Panel Items - Default Programs

Click 'Associate file types or protocols with a program'

In the left pane, click .qfx file type

At the top right, choose 'Change Program'

Scroll down and click 'More Apps' - does Quicken Appear

If not, scroll down and click 'Look for another App on this PC'

Then Navigate and find Quicken.exe and set the file association

Do the same for qif files

Hopefully that will sort this out for you . . .

Quicken is NOT listed in the left column, although it is installed on this computer.

I have followed these instructions for both file types and I still get the message that tells me that Quicken is not the default app for downloaded files from my bank. I even restarted Windows in case that was the problem.
