I'm running windows 8.1 and I have an error message that states:

The instructions at 0xfc2c42ba referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be read.

How do I fix this problem?

    Hi Judy,

We would appreciate if you could provide more details about the issue. Kindly answer the following questions:

    • What is the make and model of your device?
    • Did you make any changes prior to the issue?
    • Is the issue happening while the computer is booting up or randomly?

In the meantime, we suggest that you perform a clean boot to run the computer using the minimal set of drivers. Kindly check this article and refer to the How to perform a clean boot category then, follow the steps under Windows 8.1 and Windows 8 section.

We'll wait for your response about this matter.
