Hello, so after doing a Windows 10 installation on a newly built pc it got to the end of the install and restarted.  During the initial boot however it continues to say that "The computer restarted or encountered an unexpected error.  Windows install cannot proceed. To install click Ok to restart the computer, and then restart the installation".  The issue is that, after restarting it brings me right back to the message and I have no idea what to do.  Not super tech savy but any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the detailed response, I ended up resolving the issue with a quick registry edit I found on Google.  Apparently it's a semi common issue

When you see “The computer restarted unexpectedly” error message press Shift + F10 on your keyboard. This should open Command Prompt.

Enter regedit and press Enter to start Registry Editor.

Once Registry Editor starts, navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\Status\ChildCompletion and double click the setup.exe in the right pane.

Change the Value Data from 1 to 3 and click OK to save changes.

Close Registry Editor and restart your computer.

Make sure safe defaults are set in the bios.

Make sure the memory is seated correctly, remove and reseat. (I assume your memory is compatible with the motherboard)

Make sure the CPU fan is working and the heat sink is correctly seated on the processor.

Unplug any USB items not required. Usually just have mouse & keyboard.

Perhaps post the full spec for your system might help others when making suggestions.

If you are Performing a Clean Install by Booting from the Windows 10 install disk:

Try simplifying your configuration by keeping only your mouse and keyboard attached, that means:

    • Disconnecting multiple display monitors.
    • Remove discrete video cards, use the on-board graphics if your motherboard supports it.
    • Swap out memory modules - a RAM module might be corrupt - you can also ensure RAM sticks are installed slots 1 and 3. Your RAM modules might be corrupt, try scanning them for errors.
    • If you have more than one hard disk installed, disconnect all except the target disk where Windows 10 will be installed.
    • Reset your BIOS Defaults.
    • Disconnect all external devices, since connected devices can sometimes confuse setup.

If setup is successful after performing these tasks, you can reinstall each removed component.
