iaStorAV.sys Issue`

When I leave my pc alone the screensaver comes on as it should, but if I wait too long to return, I guess it goes into sleep mode, which is should, but when I return to wake it up I get a screen that says that an error was encountered and the pc needs to restart. And yes, it has to start all over, do disc check etc. On the screen it says that I should refer to Windows.com stopcode and that system_thread_exception_not_handled is the issue and that iaStorAV.sys is apparently the item that is failing.

I recently got a new hard drive, and also a new solid state drive, and the pc has been through a whole bunch of changes, (updating drivers, reloading software, etc).

I thought maybe the issue was related to some Avast anti-virus that a pc shop added, but I've removed it and the problem still occurs. I can't find any information on exactly what I need to do to resolve the issue.

Does anyone have information that will help?

Thanks,

Sharon

    Hi Sharon,

IaStorAV.sys is a third-party device driver or system file that is necessary to allow hardware to communicate with Windows operating system.

In most cases, this problem can be caused by hardware, firmware, memory, or driver issues.

As an initial troubleshooting step, we suggest running a full antivirus scan using Windows Defender or your antivirus software and see if it will detect any infections.

Also, for any system file corruptions related to iaStorAV.sys, we recommend running the System File Checker tool to scan and repair missing or corrupted system files.

Update us with the outcome so we can provide further assistance.
