SOS HELP!!   Error code 0x80004004   Error description: The definition updates couldn't be installed.    VIRUS and SPYWARE definitions couldn't be UPDATED!!!!!!   WHY??!!

I have been checking, NO ONE has the answer. Where are you, Microsoft help team??

    DEFINITION UPDATE FAILED  Error description: The remote system is not available. For information about  network troubleshooting, see Windows Help.

    Went to windows help. Not the answer. They say they turned it off? Will let all know when they figure it out.

    I had the same issue this evening. 

    The message means that it lost connection to the server while downloading the new definitions.

    Could be your network connection OR their server is getting flooded with requests and lost the connection.

    I opened Windows Defender and went to the Update tab - clicked update.  It failed again but then finally succeeded.

    Try again and have patience.  It will work eventually.
