MsMpEng.exe high memory usage

Hello,

it seems that the recent update for windows 10 Pro (1709) has increased the memory usage of the antimalware service executable. Atleast that's when i started to notice it, idk if it was the case before.

The said process probably has a memory leak, as the memory usage (commited memory especially) steadily rises over time. After several hours it goes over 2 GB, and after some days it even goes above 30 GB and is eating up nearly all of the available virtual memory. Once that happens windows is closing applications without warning.

Here is a screenshot of the resource monitor after 7 hours of running time:

This happens on two different PCs i recently updated. Both are running Windows 10 Pro (1709).

And both have realtime protection disabled, so idk why MsMpEng.exe is even active.

Edit:

Here i have an image of a third PC i started 8 hours ago (Running time in task manager ~6 days)

I disabled the windows defender via group policies, and now it's off and doesn't bother me anymore.

For anyone who wants to do the same can enable the following group policy:

Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Defender > Turn off Windows Defender

But it would still be nice if that bug could be fixed. I bet there are a lot of users having that buggy version of MsMpEng.exe, but they either are not affected because they have their PCs not running long enough to notice it. Or they are affected by it, but don't know why their applications force close or why they get messages about low memory.

Anyway, thanks for your efforts and help.

Have you installed the latest updates for Windows 10 1709? This usually resolves it after a while.
