control panel's uninstall a program not working!!!

so today I downloaded a file with a virus and I was trying to delete all those malicious files from the C drive.

I ran loads of virus scan using Windows Defender too. each time I made a scan and restarted my pc, there were few exclusions added automatically.

I removed them each time and they were back again. so I was trying to delete those folders manually. I was successful this time. but I guess I deleted a system file too that allows us to uninstall apps from the control panel.

so when I click on UNINSTALL A PROGRAM under "PROGRAMS" setting, I get nothing.

so I use the long way! i click on "PROGRAMS" --> "PROGRAMS AND FEATURES" --> select a program.

then when I click on uninstall I get this error (one in the attachment), which says

AN ERROR OCCURRED WHILE TRYING TO UNINSTALL {program name}. IT MAY HAVE ALREADY BEEN UNINSTALLED.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO REMOVE {program name} FROM THE PROGRAM AND FEATURES LIST?

here I get 2 choices YES and NO. both of them act as a no key.

i.e., even if I press YES, it does nothing

please help me T_T please!!!

thanks in advance!!

Sounds like your installation is corrupt and in an inoperable state.

My recommendation would be clean install:

But if you don't want to do that, then next best option is a repair upgrade:

To see exactly how infected Windows remains, download, install and run a full scan with Malwarebytes and AdwCleaner which are the two most powerful free scanners out there now:

    http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti...

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcle...

If these find no infection or clean up remaining infection so that none is found when running a follow-up scan by each, you can procced to go over this Checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

But even if it cleans up (or if it doesn't) remember that a factory or Upgrade install are inferior installs that most enthusiasts would never run in the first place because they'd expect endless issues. Most prefer to do the gold standard Clean install from this link which has no reported issues from hundreds of thousands of users: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I'll keep working with you until this is resolved.

We are volunteers willing to help you try to resolve this issue.

If you need to check for malware here are my recommendations - these will allow you to do a thorough check and removal without ending up with a load of spyware programs running resident which can cause as many issues as the malware and maybe harder to detect as the cause.

No one program can be relied upon to detect and remove all malware. Added that often easy to detect malware is often accompanied by a much harder to detect and remove payload. So its better to be overly thorough now than to pay the high price later. Check with these to an extreme overkill point.

How do I find and remove a virus?

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/ho...

TDSSKiller.exe. - Download to the Desktop - then go to it and Right Click on it - RUN AS ADMIN it will show any infections in the report after running - if it will not run change the name from tdsskiller.exe to tdsskiller.com. Whether it finds anything or not does not mean you should not check with the other methods below.

After you are sure the system is malware free :

Windows Key + X - Command Prompt (Admin) OR WIndows PowerShell (Admin)

(Run these one line at a time.)

    SFC /scannow

Note if that shows uncorrected errors - continue regardless.

When that completes run these :

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

    DISM /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth

    DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Note if that shows any uncorrected errors - continue regardless.

    Then restart the computer.

Fix Windows Update errors by using the DISM or System Update Readiness tool
