It could be a program you install before you try installing the driver that's conflicting. To minimize that establish a Clean Boot so nothing other than Windows starts with Windows, from Step 4 here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...
Then complete steps 7 and 10 in the above checklist.
The touchpad may also require enabling software so expedite all Updates, check if it requires Net Framework or Visual C++ with the maker.
You can always use a notebook mouse which I prefer. But if you have palm drag as an issue then it needs the software to disable touchpad when mouse is attached.
