MS Digital Image suite 2006 not loading on Windows 10

I have been loading and using MS Digital Image Suite 2006 since Windows XP.  I loaded it for every upgrade including Windows 10.  It has worked and has not given me any problems throughout all these versions of Windows.

Recently I tried to load it again on my PC running Windows 10.  It reaches a section where it tries to load IE 6 and stops.  The error message says it cannot load the version of IE 6 on a 64bit system and stops.

Windows 10 must have made an update that changed something that will not allow MS 2006 to load.  I wonder is Microsoft could figure out what they changed that would not allow MS software to stop working.

The software is 11 years old which is about 100 years in computer life. No hardware or software should be expected to still run well or at all when it's that old.

If there's any chance it's going to be made to run it will be by installing it in Compatibility Mode: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/316-compat....

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Microsoft no longer supports this software, so, it would eventually break with a particular release. Even software such as Office 2007 which is around the same age is starting to encounter compatibility issues with later releases of Windows 10.

Here two options you can consider:

    Install in compatibility mode:

Install in a virtual machine under a compatible version of Windows 10:

Wow,  I am 69 years old.  I am glad they do not have "Death Panels" or I would be a goner!

This software is old, but it is simple and I have gotten very good at using it over the years.  I have been trying to use some of the newer photo editing software, and it is taking me 3 to 4 minutes to do what I use to do in 30 seconds.

I will try your suggestion.  Thank you.

    Hey LRuenes,

i´m using that software for more than 10 years and every time i tried another professional photo editing software, it made me crazy xD

Its running on my Windows 10 Laptop right now. So for sure its somehow possible. I dont need to use a compatibility mode or a virtual machine to run it.

    Edition: Windows 10 Pro

    Version: 1709

    OS-Build: 16299.248

I´m not sure, if i ever reinstalled windows 10 after i upgraded from Windows 7.

So maybe it will work, when you install W7, install the MS Digital Image Suite and then upgrade to W10.

I am glad you can sill use MS Digital Image 2006.  I have been trying to use Photoplus X8, and it is taking me 5 minutes to do what I could do in 30 seconds.

As I stated, I loaded it on Windows 10 several times until something recently changed in a Windows 10 update.  I was hoping some software company had purchased it and repackaged under a new name.

Maybe someday someone will come up with a fix, that will allow me to use MS 2006 again.  Thanks.
