Eileen Gal & DaveM121, Thank you for your efforts to assist me with the Microsoft Updates probs.

Eileen Gal, I had previously tried the solution that you offered and it accomplished returning me to the 'update' completion dated and time. Therefore it did not take me back to a restore date prior to the completion of the update download. Unfortunately I am not allowed to select or create a restore point prior to the update download completion.

DaveM121, I have tried your previously provided cure only to find out that the above stated issue is also confronted.Eileen Gal & DaveM121, I have again followed DaveM121's previous solution and unfortunately when I get to the 'Driver Tab' the 'Roll back driver' option is no longer available. It is shown in a subdued state (as compared to the other selections) and will no accept a 'select left-click) of the mouse. When I go further into the areas (properties) that DaveM121 suggested, I have found the following:  Under Driver

"Details:--shows the ATI driver, "Has problems"--shows 'negative', "1st installed date"-- shows the date and time of the completion of the MS update download, "Last arrival date"--shows the date and time that I just finished the most recent restore completion, "is present and connected" (referring to the ATI driver)-- shows "true", "driver date"--shows 7-25-17, "driver version"--shows 22.19.128.0, "status"--shows: 01802000 (most recent, dn_disableable(previous), dn_nt_enumerator(previous), dn_nt_driver(initial post). "enumerator"--shows PCI and for the most part, all PCI tabs show a numerical value. I went further into the log and found this:

    Log Name:      Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-PnP/Configuration

    Source:        Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-PnP

    Date:          12/12/2017 12:54:26 PM

Of what value that my be to you, I have no idea.

It appears to me that MS has found a way to disable the working parts of an individual's computers and quite possibly a way to cause the general public to have to purchase on of their products to resolve the issue. I surely hope not.

    Thanks again for your assistance.

    Rixx or Rick

    Hi Rixx,

Based on the information that you've provided, this issue with your monitor display occurred again after another update was installed. To help you with this, we suggest that you perform a system restore. This option takes your PC back to an earlier point in time, called a system restore point. Restoring won’t affect your personal files, but it will remove apps, drivers, and updates installed after the restore point was made. To do this, follow the steps below:

    1. Select the Start button, type control panel and then choose it from the list of results.
    2. Search Control Panel for Recovery.
    3. Select Recovery > Open System Restore > Next.
    4. Choose the restore point related to the problematic app, driver, or update, and then select Next > Finish.

Note: If you’re not seeing any restore points, it might be because system protection isn’t turned on.To check, go to theControl Panel, search for Recovery, and then selectRecovery > Configure System Restore > Configure and make sure Turn on system protection is selected.

Let us know if the solution above works.

DaveM121..Thank you for your previous assistance. It worked great. But, Microsoft has sent out another update and I mistakenly thought that it was one that did not include the previous problems. Unfortunately it included more probs....

now the latest update has somehow made my graphics display driver disappear. When I follow your previous remedy and open My ATI Radeon HD3200 Graphics tab I am notified that "No drivers are installed for this device."

Yet, when I go a search for updated drivers I am informed that "Windows has determined that the best driver for this device is already installed." With 'ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics' listed below the above shown statement.

    Any other suggestions??Thanks again. Rixx

Hi Richard, your Display Driver will need rolling back . . . Windows Update has lately been installing incorrect display drivers . . .

Open Device Manager (accessible by right clicking your Start Button)

    Expand the Display Adapters Section

Right click your graphics card, choose properties

On the Driver Tab, click 'Roll back Driver'

Close Device Manager and restart your system

If there is no roll back available or that does not work, go to the Support page of the manufacturer of your PC/Laptop

Download the Device Driver they recommend for your Display Adapter/GPU and install that version, until Microsoft come out with a fix . . .

That appears to be a common result of a bad windows update that was rolled out in the last few days. There has been no confirmed fix for it yet. It appears that resetting the video driver and/or uninstalling a specific Windows update fixes the problem

    UNINSTALL VIDEO DRIVER

This is a recent, VERY common problem being asked on the site. The current unverified best guess is to try resetting the Video driver: either roll it back, or uninstall it and let win re-install, or windows upgrade it or manually download upgrade from video system builder site

    • In start menu search for Control Panel’ (icon view)
    • Right click on Device Manager
    • Select Run as Admin
    • Expand Display Adapters
    • double click on the device whose driver you need to uninstall to display the Driver Properties dialog
    • You have buttons for 3 options:
    • if it is active and you think the problem is a recent update, you can try the “Roll Back Driver button”
    • or you can try the Uninstall button
    • or you can try the Update Driver to let Windows do the update (often doing a driver update “manually” is better)
    • restart Windows

If it is not an Intel(R) HD Graphics driver, make note of the name (in case the fix above did not work). Go to the web site for the video card maker and see if they have a newer driver for the specific video card. Also ask the same question there to see if they can come up with a better answer.
