Consistency checking

I have a further issue after installing windows 10. Almost every time I boot the machine it attempts to run a Consistency check on all of my hard disks & then goes to a blank screen. 10 never seems to be able to complete the Consistency check. If I then reboot from my windows 7 install & allow it to complete the Consistency check. "It never seems to find any errors either"  I can then sometimes reboot into windows 10 which then seems to open as if nothing has happened. I read somewhere on one of these forums that I should disconnect all of my other hard disks before installing 10 so I think that will be my next option.   Regards David

Hi Andre, We fell at the first hurdle. I went to the link & attempted to download windows 10 Build 1703 & got the message "file is not available for download" . In fact none of the listed on the site seem to be downloadable.

I have just gone to this link as well http://windowsiso.net/windows-10-iso/windows-10-creators-update-1703-download-build-15063/windows-10-creators-update-1703-iso-download-standard/

& after clicking on the English X64 link it took me to the Visual Studio site which had me really confused . I got this message when I logged in

Sorry, we couldn't find any benefits for you.

If you have recently been assigned a Visual Studio subscription, please use the same sign-in credentials that were included in your subscription assignment notification email.

If your Visual Studio Subscription has recently been migrated from the legacy MSDN Subscriptions portal, and you are unable to find subscription here, please ensure you are using the same sign-in credentials that you were using to sign-in to the legacy MSDN portal. You may need to log out and log back in. Make sure to select personal account if given a choice when logging in.

Still having trouble? Please review our FAQ, or contact Support.

Or if I go to the gmail message I received I feel i'm in way over my head Visual Studio Team Services with an invitation to start developing my project  & a "happy Coding" Salutation I don't think I can swim well enough to stay in that pool !!! . Any other suggestions you have will be gratefully received Regards David

Hi Andre, with all these issues I'm tempted to stay with windows 7 until a new build of 10 arrives Regards David

I am going to recommend you downgrade to Windows 10 1703.

Step 1: download Windows 10 1703 from the following link:

    https://tb.rg-adguard.net/index.php?sid=74a7cf51-12ed-19f5-2885-3b48ad9ee67b

    Choose the following:

    • Windows Final
    • Windows 10, version 1703
    • Windows 10 Pro + Home
    • English
    • x64 (64 bit) x32 (32 bit)

Step 2: create a bootable copy

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows_10-windows_install/how-to-prepare-bootable-install-media-for-windows/442447c3-0826-4473-a5b7-36568d20ef9d

Step 3: perform a custom install

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/wiki/insider_wintp-insider_install/how-to-do-a-custom-installation-of-windows/38adfa8c-32f8-4354-8c53-13b5f2cf7e44

You should backup your files before downgrading.

Applications will need to be reinstalled.

The custom install will archive your files, so you can recover them from the Windows.old folder - make sure you follow the instructions to the letter.

There are some compatibility issues with Windows 10 version 1709 and certain hardware or software. There is no explanation why a lot of these problems are happening in Windows 10 1709, but the release is significantly flawed. Software and Hardware that once worked in previous versions, just suddenly stops working in Windows 10 1709 after an upgrade and sometimes loses functionality or stability.

Hi Karen, The computer was self built but has successfully been running Windows 10 for about a year. I had failed to set up media for reinstalling it & I had a software uninstall issue which led to boot failure .

I had always wanted to do a clean install of windows 10 & saw this as a  opportunity. I reinstalled Windows 7 on a small SSD then downloaded the Media creation tool & installed it on a USB stick. I  reinstalled 10 on my main drive & everything seemed to be going swimmingly.

After a reboot this issue started. At first I let it run Consistency checks & it started fine. I started to install drivers for my motherboard & video card & after a further reboot  the problem got worse. Windows 10 would no longer load after running the Consistency check the computer went to a blank screen. I rebooted with windows 7 & ran the Consistency check  again & the computer started normally in windows 7 . I am able to boot to 7 now but still have to run Consistency check almost every time I boot the machine. If I try to start 10 it stops on the last 3 dots on the of the spinning disc.

I have been reading through tutorials for windows 10 installation & one of the recommendations is to disconnect all other hard disks while doing the install . I am about to reinstall 10 again with only the SSD that it is being installed on connected & then reconnect  hard disks one by one. If you have any other suggestions I would be most grateful Regards David

    Hi,

This issue normally occurs due to corrupted or incompatible system files or drivers. Are you trying to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10?

Meanwhile, we suggest you to create installation media to install Windows 10. You can refer to this article (Create installation media for Windows) on how to do it.

We also recommend that you visit the PC manufacturer’s website to verify if your PC is compatible with the latest version of Windows 10.

Let us know how it goes.
