I have a question about the "Install Software Updates" task in a Task Sequence.

There are two options which you can select in the task, namely:

  1. "Required for installation - Mandatory software updates only"
  2. "Available for installation - All software updates".

What do these options mean? Does the first option mean that all the required updates for the concerning OS will be installed? And does the second option mean it will only install the updates deployed to a collection?

Windows for home | Previous Windows versions | Windows update

    Hi Hasan,

Yes, that is correct. Eventually, these updates are required to be installed in order for other updates to run. This is necessary for compatibility of certain components of one update to another.

If you have other queries, don’t hesitate to reach out.

    Hi Gerard Qui,

Thanks for your reply. But still, you have to deploy these updates to a certain collection? Or else no updates will be installed, right?

    Yours sincerely,

    Hasan

    Hi,

Yes, "Required for installation - Mandatory software updates only" option installs updates concerning with the operating system only. Meanwhile, "Available for installation - All software updates" option installs updates including the latest Microsoft application updates.

Feel free to post back if you have other concerns.
