RealTek Code 10

Hi,

I'm on a late 2011 macbook pro and have bootcamped to windows 8.1 pro. When I did this, I saw I had no sound; it said no audio devices are installedon the playback function. I have realteak sound driver updated, however it has a code 10 error whenever it starts. I have tried the uninstall and restart method, the deleting and reinstalling method, and have even reinstalled windows 8.1 on the macbook, but to no avail. When i was on Mac OS, the sound was working perfectly. Is there anything else i should try?

    Hello Theo,

    "The device cannot start.(code 10)"

This error message is an indicator that a driver for a specific device is failing to load.

It would normally display the complete error message of:

"This device cannot start. Try upgrading the device drivers for this device. (Code 10)"

Typically, as explained in our support page, the device's hardware key contains a FailReasonString value, and the value string is displaying an error message defined by the hardware manufacturer. If the hardware key does not contain a FailReasonString value the message above is displayed.

The suggested resolution is to update the driver. Though you would need to make sure which driver is actually failing to load.

Under Device Manager, check which driver has the yellow warning. Confirm if it's for Realtek Driver and the High Definition Audio Driver.

Also, would you be able to confirm if Windows is reporting that the device High Definition Audio is actually working or recognized?

This could be a case of driver incompatibility.

We will keep an eye out for your response.

    Regards.

    Thanks for the speedy reply,

Under sounds and playback, it says that no audio output device is device is installed. Under device manager, there is only Realtek high definition audio and it has a yellow sign next to it, again when clicked, it comes up with the code 10 error. I have updated and installed the latest driver for Realtek

    many thanks

    hi,

I can't see a forum support page for the Realtek audio device. Could you link me that page?

Thank you for the update, Theo.

A workaround was suggested in the forum support page of your device.

It was advised that a different driver should be installed to resolve the issue.

    Hope this information helps.

    Cheers!
