Windows 10 Shutdown Not Working

Ever since the newest Windows 10 update was installed (a couple weeks ago) the computer does not shut down (left clicking Windows icon, left clicking Power, left clicking Shut down) - the computer restarts instead. Is this a known problem? Is there a fix?

    Press Windows key + X

    Click Power Options

Under related settings, click Additional power settings

Click Choose what the power button does

Click Change settings that are currently unavailable

Uncheck 'Turn on fast startup (recommended)

    Click Save changes.

Try these first to see if they work:

    Open Start, type: CMD

    Right click CMD

    Click Run as administrator

Type in at the prompt OR Copy and Paste these one at a time : (Hit enter after each)

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Also run the System File Checker utility:

    Open Start, type: CMD

    Right click CMD

    Click Run as administrator

At the Command Prompt, type: sfc/scannow

This will check for any integrity violations

    Restart your system

    Press Windows key + R

    Type: shutdown -s -t 0

    Hit Enter

    Does it shutdown?

problem persists install was clean everything was from new install with all updates applied.  went through steps above no weirdness but power down or sleep either means restart to my computer.

Michael - it sounds like you are having the same problem. I wonder how many others are experiencing the same thing and if Microsoft is working on a solution. That would be good to know; but a solution would be even better.

It's an HP Omen 870-141 which came with Windows 10 installed (not sure which version). Current Windows 10 is Version 1709 (OS Build 16299.192). Please note that after posting my last reply to you I performed another shut down and the computer did shut down correctly.

Thanks Andre. I performed all steps as suggested, in order: unchecked 'turn on fast startup' and saved changes; all health scans were executed normally with no problems and there were no integrity violations. Performed restart, shut down in the manner next indicated. The computer did not shut down, but restarted.
