I have had issued with my screen going blank when switching users.  I started hitting the windows key + P to enter project mode and chose monitor only.  It would work.  Well one day i tried that and my resolution went wonky.  I tried changing the resolution from the recommended and the fonts are awful.   Now I try to hit window key + P i get "Your PC can't project to another screen. Try reinstalling the driver or using a different video card." -- WELL I didn't make any changes, why do I NOW get this message.  I used to get the 4 options.   Please help me get back to a normal font/resolution on my screen.  The best would be the resolution and not getting a black screen when I switch users.

Thanks!

    1. Did the computer come with Win10 preinstalled, did you do a clean install of Win10, or did you upgrade a Win7 computer or a Win8.1 computer [<=PICK ONE!] to Win10?   -- Purchased with Win 10
    2. What, if any, third-party anti-virus application (i.e., not Windows Defender) might be installed?  - Not sure  - I thought he told me he put one one.  I only see defender
    3. Has a Norton application or a McAfee application EVER been installed on the computer since you bought it?  -- no
    4. Have you ever run the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool?  - no
    5. What Version & OS Build of Windows 10 is currently installed? -- Ver 1709; Build 16299.15

Very frustrating -  I called the guy I bought from (which was listed pretty good place in the area) and he had no clue how to fix it.    Right now it looks as if my screen is using a larger resolution - but when i change the resolution it goes small and worse.    Plus the annoying black screen when i switch users.   I can still use the Win + P and the screen comes back but I don't ahve the various options of 'projection'.   I don't need them.  I just want my screen to look a bit smaller (and it is not the zoom feature; the desktop looks spread out too.

    <QP>

By cycling through the inputs I mean I press the button on the side of the monitor to choose the four different inputs available I am not using any other input [other than the moinitor]. This PC has four different ports one for the Dell, one for composite, one for VGA and HDMI, if I press the button and cycle through and go back to the Dell monitor the screen will come back on.

I tried the narrator and it explained that I had the login screen in the background it basically looks like my monitor is turned off.

    Option 1:

Open Start > Settings > System > Display

Make sure recommended settings are selected for Scale and Layout and Screen resolution.

    Another thing you can try:

uninstall your display driver then restart

Boot to the Windows 10 desktop

    Press Windows key + X

    Click Device Manager

    Expand Display adapters

Right click the current display adapter

    Click Properties

    Click Driver tab

Click Rollback driver if the option is available

    If not

Right click the current display adapter

    Click Uninstall

    Exit Device Manager

    Restart

If that does not work, try performing a system restore before this problem occurred.

    I recommend you uninstall the KB4048955, KB4048954 (Windows 10 1703)

Microsoft issued an update for several versions of WIndows 10: KB4048954, KB4048955 that has caused issues with display drivers. If you know the make and model of your computer, you can try manually reinstalling the driver from the manufacturers website for your video driver.

    Press Windows key + R

    Type: appwiz.cpl

    Hit Enter

    Click View installed updates

    Select the recent update

(This is the update you want to uninstall KB4048955)

Right click it then click uninstall.

Restart then see if stability is restored.

The update might try to install again. So, try blocking it.

Is there an option or work around to block updates or hardware drivers that might cause problems?

Yes, Microsoft has released a KB update (KB3073930) that will let users block or hide Windows or driver updates.

You can download it at the following link:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

If its the icons and toolbars, then Go back to Start > Settings > System > Display

Click in the Scale and layout list box, try another scale such as 125 to see if that works or play around with custom scaling.

    Option 2:

    Perform a repair upgrade
