Bad .dll

I am reposting this question in hopes of getting a fix for my problem.

I apparently have a bad .dll file that is preventing at least two of my most-used apps from working: Google Earth Pro and dBase. I get the following error message when the computer restarts: c:\windows\winSxS\amd64_microsoft.vc90.mfc_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_9.0.30729.6161_none_044aad0bab1eb146\mfc90u.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.

I tried downloading the latest Windows iso file but that would not run. All the other options to reinstall Windows involve removing all my apps from the machine which would be a very expensive option as I would have to re-purchase several apps.

I have a backup of the full C drive but cannot just copy this one file (or the whole directory) from the backup to the machine since it's in the Windows directory. Is there a way around this?

I received the following answer and replaced both the files mentioned but that did not fix the problem.

The issue seems to be related to the Visual C++ Redistributable.

Download then reinstall both:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable (x86)

https://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.a...

Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable (x64)

https://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.a...

If there are existing versions installed, uninstall them first:

Should I replace the other C++ files? Hope somebody can help.

    Hi Bill,

    Your concern regarding Microsoft Visual C++ is more complex than what is typically answered in the Microsoft Answers forums. Even though I cannot answer your question, I want to help you by directing you to the right support. This is better suited for the Visual Studio Languages audience on Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) website. Please post your question in the Microsoft MSDN Visual Studio Language (Visual C++) forums. The link is provided here: Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) - Ask a question.

    Let us know if there is anything else we can do to help.
