SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED BSoD with lsi sas2i.sys when updateing from Windows 10 1709 to Windows 18 1803.

Whenever I try to update from windows 10 1709 to Windows 10 1803, I receive the following BSoD:

SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED

lsi sas2i.sys

Once the system recovers and reboots back into the old Windows 10 1709, I get this error pop up stating the the installation of Windows 10 has failed:

0xC1900101 - 0x20017

The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation

My computer is a new build and had the above mentioned BSoD when attempting to install Windows 1803 onto a clean boot disk, with no OS on it. I gave up on 1803 and went back to installing 1709. This installed without a hitch and my computer is running perfectly now on Windows 10 1709.

I do have a LSI 2308 card installed. However, I use this card purely to provides more ports than the 6 disks on the Motherboard (A Gigabyte Aorus X470 Gaming 7). I have 9 disks on my computer and all are essential to my system. I CANNOT loose or replace this LSI card.

I have four SSD disks, however none of them are Intel based. They are all Samsung.

Any ideas how to get around this issue?

    Thank you for your reply. However, I still cannot install Windows 10 1803.

    I have updated all my drivers to the latest ones available.

    I have updated the Firmware and BIOS of my LSI card to the latest. and now get no BSoD.  The latest BIOS was released in 2015.

    However, I still get the above listed 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 error.

    I have looked at the suggested error log in the Panther directory, but can make no head nor tail of it. I have included it below in the hope that some clue to my issue may be pointed out to me. Thank you

    I have not done a clean boot yet, but will do so if necessary. However, it does seem to be a very involved process and so will save for a last resort.

    You probably should be asking LSI if a new driver is available for 1803

    fwiw;

    0xC1900101

    A frequently observed result code is 0xC1900101. This result code can be thrown at any stage of the upgrade process, with the exception of the downlevel phase. 0xC1900101 is a generic rollback code, and usually indicates that an incompatible driver is present. The incompatible driver can cause blue screens, system hangs, and unexpected reboots. Analysis of supplemental log files is often helpful, such as:

    • The minidump file: $Windows.~bt\Sources\Rollback\setupmem.dmp,
    • Event logs: $Windows.~bt\Sources\Rollback*.evtx
    • The device install log: $Windows.~bt\Sources\Rollback\setupapi\setupapi.dev.log

    The device install log is particularly helpful if rollback occurs during the sysprep operation (extend code 0x30018).
