I have received a notification on my games app that asks me to download an update before I can proceed. Is this legit or some kind of scam? Would appreciate knowing before I hit the download button. Thanks.

Are you downloading the app from MSN Online Games?
It does sound suspicious. I would advise contacting the app developer to determine if it is legitimate.
I's also suggest using Windows Defender Offlinescanner to remove malware that may have invaded your system. Just a precautionary suggestion.
